Hello, I am Emma and I joined C A Dyer Accounts & Bookkeeping about 8 weeks ago. I have joined the in the dual role of Office Manager & Bookkeeper and I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about me. Firstly, I was born and raised in South East London where I lived until 2015.
Beginnings
When I was a child I wanted to be either a secretary or an actor, and I am proud to say that I actually achieved both those things! After training to be an actor in my teens and undertaking a degree in English with Drama (at the University of Greenwich) I worked as a professional actor for about five years. I did this both through acting in small roles I had auditioned for but also writing, performing and producing my own plays. I had so much fun acting and performing in various fringe venues and festivals, but I always had a side to me that needed to be organised (and pay the bills) and so I also worked throughout my degree and acting career as a PA/ Office Manager in an Accountants firm in Greenwich, south London.
Moving on
I stayed at that firm for 13 years and enjoyed the friends and stability I had there whilst I was able to pursue my creative talents too. However, in 2014 I decided I wanted to stop acting and focus on my office career, whilst writing a novel. This is when I made an exciting change and got a new role in a Property Specialist company that was based in Mayfair. I loved the change of atmosphere and the hustle and bustle of central London. Whilst there we did an office move and were based just off Carnaby Street - which was such a fun place to work and socialise.
Around this time I happily got married and my husband and I decided to take a leap and move to Cambridgeshire - and have literally never looked back!
Country living
Since we moved to Cambs we have been blessed with a son and settled into town life. I went back to work when our son was two - and this time as an Office Manager in Website Design and Marketing. I really enjoyed this role, but was unfortunately made redundant due to the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2020. This made me rethink a bit about what I wanted to do and as much as I loved Office Management I realised I wanted to challenge myself again. So I decided to do a Bookkeeping qualification with AAT. This was a hard but gratifying thing to do in my early forties and I was so pleased and proud of myself when I achieved AATQB status in 2021. With this qualification I began a bookkeeping role in a small accountancy practice in Stevenage late in 2021. Whilst there I learnt the bookkeeping trade as a professional and specialised in VAT, CIS and Payroll. I really enjoyed the role (even though it was super busy) but after 2.5 years I found myself missing some of the office management duties I used to undertake - which was how I find myself now in this dual role at C A Dyer Accounts & Bookkeeping.
Up to date
I joined the team at C A Dyer just under two months ago and am loving every minute in this new role, with this fab team. I was welcomed with open arms (and a scrummy lunch) and am really enjoying getting to know the whole team and our growing client base.
I feel very lucky as it feels like this role has been specially created for me - I get to use my full skill set, honed through years of working in different industries - it's wonderful! My admin and creative side is catered for, but also my accounting side is kept on its toes overseeing the VAT Returns and working in all the different accounting software's for different clients.
That's enough for now, but thanks for reading all about me! Em Xx
